Promoting Positive Behavior
Proactive efforts to promote a kind, safe, and productive school climate.
Morning Gathering: Each morning the entire school body and staff gather together in the gym. Students and staff are given opportunities to present on focus topics that are important to them, celebrate successes, and strengthen our positive school community.
Morning Meeting: Students meet with their classroom communities daily. During this time students explore social/emotional focus topics such as: working together, spreading kindness, empathy, persistence, etc... Students are explicitly taught positive behavior skills, and have an opportunity to share their own experiences and concerns with their classmates.
Second Step: Some students participate in whole or small group morning meeting where Second Step is the primary teaching tool. The goal of Second Step is to "nurture social-emotional competence and develop foundational learning skills". www.secondstep.org/elementary-school-curriculum
Team Lead Jr.: Each grade level has a group of young leaders and role models called Team Lead Jr. These students identify behavior and academic concerns within their grade level, and create special projects or plans to promote positive change within our school.
