PBIS at Home

As you know we are using PBIS (Positive Behavior and Interventions Supports) to teach our students what positive behavior looks like.  This is solely a positive based behavior management program which the district endorses.

One of the goals of PBIS is to have the program of expectations transfer to other areas of the child’s life such as home.  We encourage you to try PBIS in your home.  The children already know the expectations – Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Productive, and Be Safe.

To help you get started we have attached the following:

1.     A blank Home Matrix which you can complete based on your families expectations. You should still use Respectful, Responsible, Productive, and Safe.

2.     A completed sample of such a Matrix which you can use as your “How to Guide” when completing your own Matrix

3.     A sample of the schools completed Matrix which is used at school for teaching and re-teaching expected behavioral expectations (under PBIS at School)

4.     A list of "Cool Tools" for home that might be beneficial to use as a guideline with different scenarios

5.     A list of free or inexpensive rewards/incentives that you might use in your home to acknowledge appropriate behaviors

6.     It is all about catching your child “Being good”

We would love it if you would share your own Home Matrix with us.  We would like to use your Matrix to assist other parents.  We also would like to acknowledge families trying this process and we are also interested in your ongoing feedback.

If you require further information or assistance with this process, please feel free to contact us at Prairie Trail School. We are available to assist anyway that we can.

We wish you the best of luck with this process. We do believe that you will find it helpful in managing your child’s behaviors in a positive fashion.

How can you be a partner?
We want you to be a partner in helping us make our school a more positive place for our children to learn.  Some ways to be involved are:
  • Reminding your child each day before they leave about expectations
  • Making sure that your child come to school everyday and on time
  • Asking if they got any PT Pride tickets
  • Making a poster at home of the rules
  • Making a at home matrix of the expectations
  • Community Liaison
  • Parent Representatives for PBIS Monthly Meetings
PBIS meeting are held once a month in our conference room.  Meetings go from 2:45- 3:30p.m. once a month on a Monday.  If you would like to serve as a parent representative on the PBIS committee, we would love to have your input!  If you are interested in attending the monthly meetings, please contact Ms. Kimberly Daniel.
  • Parent Volunteers for Celebrations
Celebrations are once a quarter. You could be helping by watching over students, setting up activities, or managing activities. Please contact Mrs. Heather Haggedorn or Ms. Kimberly Daniel if you would like to be a volunteer (sign up in volunteer packet).
  • Parent Volunteers for PT Pride Store
PT Pride Store is a place for students to redeem their tickets for prizes. The volunteer would need to come in during lunch hours, 10:45- 1:00pm and manage the store (take tickets and give prizes). The store is open once every other week (typically a Friday).
Please contact Tom Raitzer if you would like to be a volunteer (sign up in volunteer packet).

We believe that with your support we can help make Prairie Trail an even better place for your child to learn and grow.
